Suai Solves Your Proma Drama
By Suai
Suai, the 20-year-old Detroit songstress who's rocking our Ultimate Prom, is as smooth and soulful as her name sounds.
Why do we love her? Because she's cool and confident, yet totally gets the drama of teen life. (Just listen to the tracks on her debut album, coming out in early June, and on MySpace!). Even better, Suai knows the perfect way out of a sticky situation.
Read on for her advice to get you through your worst-case prom dilemmas!
What if I go to prom and find a girl is wearing the same dress as me? How can I still stand out and look special?
It’s totally not the end of the world if you and another girl wear the same dress to prom! It just means you guys both have fine taste in eveningwear! To guarantee that you look special, don’t buy your shoes and accessories from the same place that you buy your dress. Try finding a one-of-a-kind necklace or a pair of earrings at a boutique for a truly creative look!
I dated the same guy freshman through junior year. I always thought we’d go to prom together, but he broke up with me this summer and is dating another girl. I’m sure I’ll find a guy friend to go to prom with, but it’s going to be awful seeing my ex with another girl — I still have feelings for him. How can I move on and not ruin my night?
Well, at least for your prom night, try not to focus on the feelings you have for your ex. Instead, think about how cute your dress is, how the DJ will probably play all of your favorite songs, and how your ex is more than likely watching you having a blast without him!
Two guys asked me to prom! I said yes to the first one — we’re friends — but I have the biggest crush on the second guy. I never thought he’d ask me! Am I stuck with guy #1?
Two invites? Nice. Well, if guy #1 is someone you’ve known for a while and feel comfortable around, stick with him! Guy #2 might not turn out to be who you expected. And you could be stuck with awkward prom-night memories forever! So, have a guaranteed great time with your friend and see if Mr. Crush, a.k.a. guy #2, would be interested in hanging out some other time.
My best friend has been obsessed with being voted Prom Queen, probably since we were in fifth grade. But my friends are nominating me too.… Should I run, or should I just stay out of it because I know it means so much to her?
If you’ve never cared about being the prom queen, then let your friends know you really don’t want to run, but you’d love for them to support your best friend instead! But if it’s something you’ve been thinking about and you kinda want to rock that crown, then go for it! What’s a little friendly competition?
