Lip Stick or Lip Gloss?
By Tammy Tibbetts
As if picking out your dress wasn't a hard enough decision, you also have to think about your makeup! First decision: lip stick or lip gloss? We asked celebrity makeup artist Joanna Schlip to solve the beauty battle once and for all!
Lip gloss wins!
Joanna recommends lip gloss with lip stain underneath. Stain your lips first (try Ink Lip Stain by Urban Decay, $17), blot with a tissue, and then top off with lip gloss. You can easily reapply lip gloss throughout the night, without worrying that you've smeared lip color on your teeth or mouth. Plus, lip gloss is more kissable proof!
How about a lip plumper?
If you want to use one, Joanna recommends the Physicians Formula brand, because the plumpers are made with natural ingredients, like cinnamon. Try Physician's Formula Plump Palette Plumping Lip Color ($7.99).
Lip Stick Trend Alert!!
There is an exception: If you like to follow trends, lip stick is probably for you. The old Hollywood glamour of the 1940s and 1950s demands the matte red you get from lip stick. Scarlett Johansson, Christina Aguilera, and Gwen Stefani give this old-school look modern-day appeal.
How do you choose your shade of red?
If you're lighter-skinned, go for blue-based reds, or burgundy colors. If you're olive-skinned, you can pull off fire-engine red. And if you're darker skinned, go for deep berry reds.
Whatever you choose, be sure to try out your look before the big night!
